qmail smtp is running but not working

hey,

i got a small problem with my qmail smtp. i can't send any emails although all qmail processes are running but in plesk it's displayed as not running. starting the service within plesk has no effect. I even restarted the hole VPS but nothing changed.

please help me, i need to send emails!!!
