• Please be aware: Kaspersky Anti-Virus has been deprecated
With the upgrade to Plesk Obsidian 18.0.64, "Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Servers" will be automatically removed from the servers it is installed on. We recommend that you migrate to Sophos Anti-Virus for Servers.
  • The Horde webmail has been deprecated. Its complete removal is scheduled for April 2025. For details and recommended actions, see the Feature and Deprecation Plan.
  • We’re working on enhancing the Monitoring feature in Plesk, and we could really use your expertise! If you’re open to sharing your experiences with server and website monitoring or providing feedback, we’d love to have a one-hour online meeting with you.

Question Questions Regarding PHP Updates and Firewall Installation in Plesk

sy911

New Pleskian
Server operating system version
Ubuntu 22.04 x64
Plesk version and microupdate number
Version 18.0.56
Hello,

I have some questions:

  1. I'm using Plesk and I was wondering if PHP updates automatically, or do users need to manually update it themselves?

  2. When installing and updating Plesk, I noticed that the Plesk firewall is not installed by default and needs to be installed separately. Does this mean that it's not necessary to install a firewall?
Thank you for your response!

Hi @sy911,

1) When you have automatic Plesk updates enabled in Tools & Settings, PHP updates (e.g. 8.2.11 -> 8.2.12) will be installed automatically. New PHP versions (e.g. PHP 8.3) need a manual installation through Plesk installer.

2) It only means that the Plesk Firewall is an extension, and extensions need to be installed separately. Is it necessary? In most cases and by the aspect of server security: yes. Technically: No.
