Safe to run fsck with live web sites on server?

We are having an odd behavior with the server, goes into "read-only file system" when remotely rebooted (ugh...).

Does anyone know if it's safe to run fsck on the server while it's up live (with active web sites running)??

I did a # man fsck on the server but it does not really say anything about that. Just concerned if it finds and fixes errors what may happen?
