server with private ip address ?

Hi all,

I need to instal la plesk server in my firewall's DMZ..

so it will have a private (non-routable) address configured into its linux OS like : 10.100.100.1 for example.

I have an entire public ip subnet given by my hosting company.
I was thinking of use one of these public ip to create a port forwarding to my internal ip address...but will such a configuration work with Plesk, or will i have to really configure one of the public ip address into my linux's network configuration of the server ?

thanks

Florent

Yes, this works fine with plesk.

But if you put it in the DMZ of your router, you won't need to forward ports are all ports should already be forwarded (that's effectively what a DMZ is on *most* routers.

Please note that you'd need to carefully firewall the Plesk box in this case.

Another way of doing it would be just to forward port 80 (and maybe smtp etc) to the private IP (i.e. don't put it in the DMZ) in which case the router's firewall will protect it.

I have used both options on my router and both work fine.

Faris.
