  • The Horde component is removed from Plesk Installer. We recommend switching to another webmail software supported in Plesk.
  • The BIND DNS server has already been deprecated and removed from Plesk for Windows.
If a Plesk for Windows server is still using BIND, the upgrade to Plesk Obsidian 18.0.70 will be unavailable until the administrator switches the DNS server to Microsoft DNS. We strongly recommend transitioning to Microsoft DNS within the next 6 weeks, before the Plesk 18.0.70 release.

Setting up a staging site

David23

Basic Pleskian
Hello there,

I want to setup a staging site on our server. We have a website mydomain.com and I want to make a sub-domain called dev.mydomain.com so we can develop the website without hindering the live version. The website is a WordPress website and I have copied the database and linked to the database via the wp-config file. I created a new user for the development database and linked this to the database via the wp-config file also. I can see the website is now reading from the copied database as when I preview on Plesk I can see the dev.mydomain.com. But I cant access it through my internet browser. It says it cannot be found. Do I need to make some DNS settings to point to this sub domain? Also when I navigate through the site via the preview button in Plesk the homepage is dev.mydomain.com but when I navigate further in it is now only mydomain.com. I am not sure what I have done wrong.

I also have another question but this is more Wordpress related but I believe someone here must have created a sub domain to develop a WordPress site. The question is when I copy the database. Normally I can edit the site via mydomain.com/wp-admin. If i could access my site and went to dev.mydomain.com/wp-admin, will the copy have copied the WordPress user details also? Or does it create a new user so that you can amend dev.mydomain.com without affecting mydomain.com. E.g. mydomain.com uses the user admin and password 123 for example, when I then go dev.mydomain.com can I use admin and 123 again as the admin user on dev.mydomain.com points to the dev. database and the mydomain.com admin user only points to the mydomain.com database. Sorry if this should be asked elsewhere but just thought that someone might know.

I hope this is clear enough and if ive missed anything then please say.

Many thanks in advance,
David
