Hi,

while installing Spamassassin via Plesk there was an error message. I have tried via CLI:

Do you have any special gcc or make packages installed from any third-party repositories?

It is a fresh installation - virtuall Server Ubuntu with Plesk. I have nothing else installed.

A number of things should be noticed:

- you should have enough (free) memory for the compiler process: just try to install some base packages first, install spamassassin afterwards (one-package-one-installation action)
- there are some known bugs with gcc compiling of spamassassin, mostly related to gcc permission structure: this should not apply to 3.4.0-1ubuntu2.1
- there can be problems with gcc compiler itself: this is not likely to be the case, if you have a clean install of Ubuntu 14.04.4 LTS
- problems with stratoserver repositories can exist, but these problems are often resolved very fast: just wait a day to retry

In short, try to install Plesk base packages and make sure that enough free memory exists.

Afterwards, try to install spamassassin separately and again, make sure that free memory is sufficient.

If that really does not help, just return and ask your question(s).

I have no plesk on my server but exactly the same problem: I have a V-Server from strato with
Ubuntu 14.04.4 and I cannot compile the spamassassin-rules (same error message as yours).

I have now three (3) Strato vServers, the same problem on every machine.

I have request support from Strato, but no answer.

After ordering second and third vServer I could install SpamAssassin on the fresh machine, but after "New installation" the problem arrives. In my opinion the "New installation" does not work the way it should...

does any Body know how to solve this Problem ?
I have 2 VServer from Strato, both are makeing the same Problem, as described above.

On the Otherhand, I've got 3 Real-Server, without any Problems ....

since I don't own the VServer, I playing with the Idea to disable SPAMASSIN ....
I'll install qmail + SPAMDYKE from source so at least there will be some kind of SPAM-Protection ...

Der Befehl lautet, wie folgt: apt-get install --reinstall binutils

Während und nach der Ausführung des Befehls sind alle Dienste weiterhin aktiv. Der Befehl hat keinen negativen Einfluss auf Ihre Konfiguration.

Anschließend kann die SpamAssassin-Installation über Plesk ("Updates und Upgrades") neu angestoßen werden.

Die Arbeiten am Image werden aufgrund der Qualitätssicherung noch einige Tage in Anspruch nehmen, daher empfehle ich Ihnen die oben genannte Lösung.
