Issue Unable to start Web Application Firewall (ModSecurity) – “Failed to download tortix rule set”

18.0.70 Update #2
Hi everybody,

I’m experiencing an issue with the Web Application Firewall (ModSecurity) after purchasing the Atomic license. When attempting to enable the WAF using the “Atomic Advanced (bought from Plesk)” ruleset, I receive the following error:

Failed to install the ModSecurity rule set: modsecurity_ctl failed:
Failed to download ruleset from atomic. The ruleset archive '/etc/httpd/conf/modsecurity.d/rules/tortix_rule_set.tar.gz' can't be unpacked successfully.

I’ve already tried:
  1. Reinstalling ModSecurity via Tools & Settings → Updates and Upgrades → Add/Remove Components.
  2. Manually downloading the tortix_rule_set.tar.gz from Atomic’s update server and placing it in /etc/httpd/conf/modsecurity.d/rules/.
  3. Restarting the firewall setup in Plesk, but the same error persists .
I got this problem now on 2 servers. The folders /etc/httpd/conf/modsecurity.d/rules/tortix/modsec/ are up to date though. The files are from 5th of july 16 o'clock

Any hints what i can do to get this working or what my problem is?

Hi LordReaper,

I have the same problem on a server with Almalinux 8.10 with “Plesk Obsidian 18.0.71.0” just installed.
Have you been able to fix it? I have tried everything and I can't find a solution

Thanks!

Our team is currently reviewing this case. It is still unclear what exactly causes the issues as it cannot be reproduced on every environment. I will follow-up with more details as soon as possible. Thank you in advance for your patience in the meantime.

Hi @jvaron, no the problem still persists. Plesk is investigating. The only thing i can see is that we are both using Almalinux. Maybe something with Alma...
Greetings
