I'm running Plesk 6.5.2 on Windows Server 2003. MSDE 2000 was installed as part of Plesk. I am not using MSDE and wish to remove it so that I can install SQL Server 2005. MSDE 2000 to SQL 2005 is not a supported upgrade path, thus MSDE needs to be removed. I do not plan on using MSDE or MSSQL with Plesk whatsoever.
Now to the specifics... the product code for MSDE according to the Windows registry is 8D0CD104-BD66-496D-B43A-0D6CC6212A61. When attempting to uninstall using "msiexec /x [PRODUCT CODE]", windows installer indicates that I am removing Plesk 6.5.
I definitely do not want to remove Plesk. I do want to remove MSDE. I suspect that because Plesk installed MSDE to begin with that MSDE might be listed in the bowels of the registry as a component of Plesk and that is the reason I'm seeing the "Uninstalling Plesk 6.5..." warning.
Can anybody confirm that this is the case, and that uninstalling MSDE using msiexec is appropriate? Removing Plesk would be disasterous for me, but I'm looking to get SQL 2005 installed as quickly and cleanly as possible.
Thanks for any guidance.
