Unknown date stops MS Outlook

I’ve recently installed a PLESK 8 Server. After a month of usage some of my clients are receiving mail with no sender nor date. This causes Ms Outlook Express to stop the receiving process…. and starting all over again, until this message. (and so on ..)

The only solution so far is to delete the message via Webmail.

Does anybody else have the same problem? Any ideas how to fix this?

Thanks in advance.

Outlook Plesk 8 Hang

Hi
I have the same problem with plesk and it's also been now about 1month.

Can you please let me know how you got it fixed?

Thanks

This is not a new problem with Plesk 8 - it's been around for a long time. But the problem (and the fix) are not with Plesk because Plesk doesn't cause the problem.

The date and the subject of an email are created by the program which sends the message - Plesk / Qmail only deliver the message as it was received and if those fields in the header are blank to begin with they are not supplied by Qmail when the message is received - nor are they deleted when the message is received.

The problem with receiving them in Outlook is typically not with Plesk or Qmail either - but the interaction between Outlook and any anti virus software installed on the client PC to scan incoming messages. The AV software acts as a proxy server between Outlook and the real mail server (Plesk with Qmail) and though Outlook will complain that the connection to the server has been lost, it is the connection to the AV proxy server that has been lost.

It is usually possible to configure an AV program to NOT scan incoming email, which will then allow Outlook to accept such malformed messages. This is not as dangerous as it sounds because AV programs typically scan all files when they are read or written to disk - so an infected message would be blocked when it is saved to the Inbox and the PC remains protected.

Jim - Good to see you back on the forums !

Gosh that was an old problem...

I have also seen rare cases (recently) of client side firewall software which can affect email retrieval from servers (not just Plesk servers). Disable the firewall software and click send/receive, and wha-la, email arrives in their inbox.

Thanks

Sorry, but is that also why you have to login to webmail and delete the message and then it works fine again?

Outlook Express Plesk 8 Hang

I have disabled the antivirus and the firewall and the problem still occurs.
the domain is www.pinnacleinstruments.co.za
and the email address is [email protected]

Please advise on any solution as this problem only occurs with that specific address and there are others that work fine.

Have even tried setting up the email on a other pc and still get the same problem.

Thanks
Garth

Does anyone know how to stop these from getting to the inbox? I would just like to reject them if they are like this.
