view domains on ip address

I am moving servers and the backup restore fucntion isn't working form me.. I would like to setup the domain on the new server before I transfer... is it possible to see the website on the new server before I transfer, ie on the end of an ip address?

For moving sites from one server to another you can use Plesk Migration manager. Did you try it? Also, what kind of problems do you have during backup restoration? Any errors?
As for domain preview as I understand you wish to access domain before DNS has propagated? Is that right? For this purposes you can use Site Preview:

Plesk Control Panel -> Domains -> domain.name -> Site Preview

The migration seem to work, although the server did not pick up index.html, but it did pick up index.php


The site preview for some reason forwards me to the live site (with is on another server)

is there any address I can put in to view the site before the dns has propergated?

Use on your computer a modified version of /etc/hosts to avoid to use the correct (live) DNS address.

So:

ip_test_server domainname.ext
ip_test_server www.domainname.ext
