Resolved What is Plesk?

Sam Hobbs

New Pleskian
I am sorry, but I really can't understand what Plesk is. It seems to be both software and hosting services. Sure, I have looked at the home page of this site and it is a bunch of fluff but no clear answer to the question. It is typical marketing talk that does not help technical people that actually do things.

I am a GoDaddy hosting services customer. GoDaddy uses something called Plesk. I don't know if that has anything to do with anything here. If this site is for hosting services but not Plesk software then I apologize for wasting everyone's time.

My current problem is that I can't use Web Deploy from Visual Studio to my GoDaddy sites and of course GoDaddy support insists it is not their problem. I tried to use Connect via Remote Desktop (RDC) to your Windows server | GoDaddy Help because it seems to be related and I can't connect.

So the thing that would help me the most is to either figure out why I can't use Web Deploy if it is not a GoDaddy problem or what to say to GoDaddy if it is a GoDaddy problem.

Regarding the documentation, the only part that is relevant to me is the part that says "To download the file for a certain website, click on a corresponding Download link in Websites & Domains > <domain_name> > Web Deploy Publishing Settings.". Everything else is outside my control; it is all GoDaddy's system and I can't change it and I can't get them to understand that it is their problem.

I gave up on GoDaddy. I have switched to Microsoft Azure. It took about two minutes to publish my site to Azure. When I downloaded the publish settings from Azure, everything was there, including password, and it just works. There was one glitch that was quickly solved by StackOverflow.

Plesk is a control panel available on our Windows-based hosting accounts and servers. It lets you easily manage many aspects of your account, including the files, applications, and (for servers) email hosted on your account or server

Thank you, but none of that helps. As I said, I am a GoDaddy customer. GoDaddy uses something called Plesk. Is the software they use the same software as is the control panel used here? If so, then is plesk.com the current developer of that software?

This question of what Plesk is would not be relevant if the software was not used by others, such as GoDaddy, but since they do, it is confusing.

Yes.

Okay, thank you. I don't need anything more, my issues with GoDaddy have settled down. I will use the Plesk documentation when possible.
