Where can I place new websites within an existing web space?

Hansjuh

New Pleskian
Hi,

I have running a VPS server for two weeks with plesk 11.09. I have created a subscription for a domain and I want to host another website on the same webspace.

I see that the default domain for a subscription is directly hosted in the httpdocs folder. Where can I create a folder to host another website? In httpdocs or a folder in the root directory of the webspace?

I know that I can change the path to the files when I host a domain.

What is the best way to host your websites?

Thanks :)
Hans

Hi, the best way to host multiple websites is to create a new subscription for each domain/website.

This way, you can then easily control hosting options such as disc space, mail accounts, expiry dates etc

Any more questions, just ask!

Hi, thank you for your comment. :) At this moment I have already running one extra website in a web space. Can I move this website in plesk to the new subscriber? Or do I need to upload the files again and remove the current domain I have running in the webspace? Thanks

Hi Hans,

You won't be able to create a new subscription with the same domain as one already hosted.

Hi DaveKay,

In that case, I think I must delete the current hosted domain in that webspace and create a new subscriptions with the same domain. Add all the html files and I'm up and running again.

I myself prefer to do this on root of structure where httpdocs is, not inside of httpdocs. The only problem is that plesk create domain in both root of webspace where httpdocs is and all there files are there AND same domain name in /var/www/vhost but no data is there....which is confusing a bit, but I've already got used to it.

True, it's best to make subscrption, I love that. Personally because you can just move subscription to any customer when it comes need to do so, very nice advantage and you don't lose anything.

BUT, check this case: your hosting package you're selling have e.g. 3 domains and XX other things. When you create customer by default one domain gets created / one subscription. On that subscription you assign service plan client broughted (hosting package he broughted) and within that subscription you can put few more domains/subdomains/alias domains, mails/databases, FTP, etc......As you can already figure it out, this whole webspace has it's limits from service plans you assigned them and client can check this limits in Home. But lets say we take same domains and for each domain you create new subscription. They you have problem when it comes to limiting, you have to modify each of this subscription, divide hosting package (client broughted) limit by all this subscriptions and you have to change this settings all the time if he has need to have some high limits on one-two, on the rest are low. Then you have to explain to them why every domain has different limit and the hosting package he brought has more then this, then you have to explain that this is divided.......long story.

Both have it's advantages and disadvantages.
