which services are needed for mail redirect

Thank you btw for everyone who has been so helpful in the past.

A quick question: I'm not keeping any mailboxes on the server, and just using it for mail redirect. Is it the SMTP server or the IMAP/POP3 server that take care of doing the redirect? I'd like to shut off the one that is not being used.

I'd say SMTP server, because thats its job - to send emails
