Xinetd gets killed every 2 minutes

Hi,

I am getting the following error message in my server .

"xinetd dead but pid file exists"

Even after restarting the service, xinetd gets killed after running for 2 minutes with above mentioned error. Can anyone help me out here ? Qmail is not working. I have made proftpd standalone.
