yum update centos 5.3

can I just do yum update with plesk 8.6 installed?
It seems that plesk updater does not update all that needs, yum tells me I have over 4025 packages that needs updating.
I dont want to crash plesk because of something new plesk does not know about.

Sure, and the plesk updater can't handle the OS updates. You just use yum the normal way
