Access to the standardsite with other domainnames on the server

milenke

New Pleskian
If a site is defined as standard-site for the IP, I can access to this site with other domainnames on the server, when the prefix w.ww, ww., w.w or w. is used. e.g w.ww.sitename.com starts www.standard-site.com.

Is this a bug?

Hello Mike,

No, it's NOT a bug!
That's how it works ...

Anything on that IP just works ...
Eg, if you pointed a domain name domain.com to your iP but the domain name didn't exist on your server, opening your domain name in the browser would still show your website which is defined as default for your IP address.

In my opinion ww.w.domain.com or w.ww.domain.com are not correct domain names.
(domain.com exists on my server.)
On all other servers this cause a server not found - not on Plesk system.
If I have a standard-site and an other domain on the server is opened with a mistake like ww.w everybody can see that other domains are hosted.

The whole point of setting a default website for an IP address to catch ALL those incorrect URLs and default them to respective IP default website.

I use the default website to show new sites to the owner before the domain is hosted.
If the owner has plesk access, he can see other sites on the server in his log.
