Question Best way to migrate plesk from one Server to another

s.patil

New Pleskian
Hello,

We want to migrate one Window server 2012 which is having plesk version 11.0 to new Window server 2016 which has plesk onyx 17.5 so in this case, What would be best way to migrate plesk data to another Server?

Kindly provide your thoughts.

Thanks,
Sandeep

The best way to do it is to use the Plesk Migrator extension. Check on your new server if you have "Migration & Transfer Manager" under "Tools & Settings", if not then go to "Updates and Upgrades" and install the "Plesk Migrator" there.

You can find the documentation here: Introduction

Hello,

Thanks for your reply. We have additional query about Backup restore. Yesterday, we have tried to restore backup on another Server but it took almost 20 hours to complete it.
Is it normal situation OR we are doing something wrong?

We have performed following steps -

1. We generated backup of old server plesk which had 8 MB Size.
2. We copied that backup zip file on another Server and we restored it using Tools and Settings option.
3. This process took almost 20 Hours in background.

It would be great if you can provide us suggestions.

Thanks,
Sandeep

This is definitely not normal. I can tell from our own experience that migrating 300 domains with 600GB of data and 6 million files/directories takes around 10-12h for the initial sync using Plesk migrator.

Please note that you used "Backup Manager" and not Plesk Migrator (which is under the link "Migration & Transfer manager", but nevertheless the restore should be a _lot_ faster than what you experienced.

Please try using Plesk Migrator to migrate your website to the new server using the procedures explained here: Migrating from Supported Hosting Platfoms
