Hi all,

I was upgrading Plesk and it appeared to break during the process.

It appears that MariaDB has broken and I cannot get it working at all.

The error is "ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)" and I have gone through as many options as I can find and MariaDB simply cannot start. I have made various changes to my.cnf and tried to run with the host parameter being either 127.0.0.1, 0.0.0.0 or localhost and none of these work either.

Also, /usr/lib/systemd/system/mariadb.service.d is empty so systemctl start mariadb / mysql doesn't work.

Help. I'm really stuck :( thanks anyone for your help.

You got a few options:

You can try following the guide located at https://support.plesk.com/hc/en-us/...-connect-to-local-MySQL-server-through-socket
OR
Restore from a snapshot (I hope you've made a snapshot before the upgrade).

Last option I can provide is to reach out to plesk support directly to see if it's recoverable if you do not have any backups and/or have not created a snapshot before the upgrade.

I found myself in the same problem though and decided to take this chance (after restoring from last week's backup) to just move to a whole new server lol.

Either case, good luck o7

Thanks. Unfortunately it didn't work as Plesk can't start due to the socket issue. I have also reinstalled MariaDB and that didn't generate a new socket either.

I'm also in a support doom loop - Plesk says "contact your reseller" (hosting company) and the hosting company says "contact Plesk". I have asked the hosting company to sort this out but fear that I'm going to be totally cast adrift in this situation.
