Change webmail.* to msg.* - since some companys block *mail* in the hostname

kevin@

Basic Pleskian
PSA 7.5.4
FreeBSD 5.3

Due to the reason mentioned in the topic, I would like to add another alias for webmail.* for all sites on the server. I would like to also include ServerAlias msg.*

The problem is, I cannot figure out how to change this without plesk overwriting my changes every time.

How can I put that in there on a global level, and not have it overwritten the next time plesk touches the config?

Lots of company's out there are blocking *mail*.anything.com to cut down on people using hotmail, etc at work. My customers have requested a way around this, and I agree it should be easy to implement, but Plesk is fighting me on it!

Thanks,

Kevin

Yes, it should be configurable - we also see a lot of ppl trying to use www.webmail.<domain> which is causing add'l support overhead. They should include a configuration site for webmail where you can add ServerAliases for the webmail config in httpd.include.

Well, as a workaround you can copy the webmail vhost config part of the httpd.include, put it in the main httpd.conf and add your ServerAliases there.

Just make sure you document it so you don't forget to check the config after a plesk upgrade. They like to move things arounds :)

Nice idea... but that is one thing I dislike about plesk. So many "workarounds" to do simple things.

Why can't we just have an admin interface that can interact with plesk's default configurations? Surely simple changes like these wouldn't mess up Plesk's operation as a whole...
