• Please be aware: Kaspersky Anti-Virus has been deprecated
With the upgrade to Plesk Obsidian 18.0.64, "Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Servers" will be automatically removed from the servers it is installed on. We recommend that you migrate to Sophos Anti-Virus for Servers.
  • The Horde webmail has been deprecated. Its complete removal is scheduled for April 2025. For details and recommended actions, see the Feature and Deprecation Plan.
  • We’re working on enhancing the Monitoring feature in Plesk, and we could really use your expertise! If you’re open to sharing your experiences with server and website monitoring or providing feedback, we’d love to have a one-hour online meeting with you.

DKIM would not accept SmarterMail 2048 Key

Basic Pleskian
Hi
I am trying to get email signing using DKIM. IT took me about 2 hours of looking to find anything close to "complete" instructions. Had to piece it together from :

http://blog.matoski.com/articles/spf-dk-dkim-plesk-debian/
https://support.managed.com/kb/a186...fied-mail-dkim-for-smartermail-and-plesk.aspx
http://portal.smartertools.com/kb/a2754/set-up-dkim-and-domain-key.aspx?KBSearchID=671607

Apparently there is now a 2048 bit key standard as of December 2014 ?
I tried setting the 2048 key as part of the TXT DNS record in PLESK and it gave me an error every time.
So i switched it to the 1024 Key and it worked.

Is there a problem using the 2048 key on Plesk ?

Still not sure i got this all sorted as i just completed it. so still not sure everything is configured as needed.

Hello,

As I can see, 1024-bit key has length ~228 symbols
2048-bit key has length ~405 symbols

Maximum TXT length for DNS in Plesk is 255 symbols, so 2048-bit key will be cut.

Currently it is possible to insert this string manually updating Plesk database directly, but we do not recommend this scenario.

Is this something that being worked on? I understand exceeding 255 symbols for a TXT record breaches the standards, but DKIM standard is 2048bit and there is a standard allowing for splitting a TXT in to multiple below 255 symbol chunks.
Indeed, editing the database directly is an option, but rather not..

kind regards,
Helge

Well have only been waiting since September 2014 when I brought this to the attention of Plesk, but low and behold my post from then has been deleted

http://forum.parallels.com/showthread.php?303983-2048-bit-DomainKeys-DKIM-Support-when

Thanks, just brush it all under the carpet, maybe we will forget ................

** EDIT **
Thanks to UFHH01, it was June 2014 that I brought this to the attention of Parallels!

Thanks for finding the redirected link,

though the link I posted was the correct link, definately not 'wrong'

Such redirects from the old post system to the new post system should be don automatically, but this is an entirely different subject.

FYI

My old post (old URL) does not even show up in my user CP

Maybe in the year 2020 we will finally have 2048 bit keys just when 4096 become industry standard .............

So, as we end the year 2017, as Windows users we are still waiting for 2048 DKIM support.

Really pathertic .........................
