e-mail question

I'm trying to set up a mail Redirect to another domain [I own and host it on the same VPS]

I have [email protected] setup with a mailbox
I want [email protected] setup to redirect to me@my_other_domain.com But it won't

[email protected] setup to redirect to [email protected] works, I get mail addressed to [email protected] in [email protected] mail box

Sending mail to [email protected] when setup to redirect to another@my_other_domain.com fails to deliver.

On the mail2 page the setting are:-

Control panel access on.
Mailbox Off
Redirect On
Autoresponders Off
Mail group Off
SpamAssassin Off

Anyone give me a clue as were I'm going wrong

Thanx for the reply, I have been doing just that and found many entry's like :-

The only MX record is for mail.mydomain.com none for my_other_domain.com


I should add that mydomain.com is the main domain for the website my_other_domain.com is an alias also I use my host's mail facility/servers for mail for my_other_domain.com

Another possibly related problem is that php mail() will work sending mail to any address except anyone@my_other_domain.com Could my hosts mail servers be rejecting it??

Do you run the DNS for my_other_domain.com on your Plesk box?

If I understand you correctly, I use my host's[1&1] name servers although I may have it all completely wrong.

The plesk dns page shows:-

<domain>. NS ns.<domain>.
<domain>. A <ip>
<ip> / 24 PTR <domain>.
ftp.<domain>. CNAME <domain>.
mail.<domain>. A xx.xxx.xxx.xx
mail.<domain>. MX (10) mail.mydomain.com
ns.<domain>. A <ip>
webmail.<domain>. A <ip>

I would normally say that seeing this:

In your VPSes log file means the mx records for that domain point to your VPSr, but the actual domain has no email set up for it.

Since you host the email for it elsewhere, this is not suprising.

What is therefore happening is that Plesk is redirecting correctly but it thinks the domain is local, tries to deliver locally, then fails.

They key is that the DNS does not appear to be correct. The MX records should point to the remote host, not the plesk box.

If you are not running DNS for that domain on the Plesk box then you should have DNS turned off for it, and only have NS pointers (to the 1and1 DNS servers).

I don't use domain Aliases so I can't remember if you can manage DNS for an Alias separately for an Alias or not.

There is no 'my_other_domain.com' listed in the plesk domain page, only entries for the physically hosted sites so I cannot manage dns for the alias.

This has all happened since they 'upgraded the VPS servers' although they deny the upgrade would cause any problems. I think it time to get back to 1&1's support, ........ their answer will be "We don't support VPS's" again.

Anyone know of a affordable managed friendly host.
