Email PGP & S/MIME Encryption

I see when i send emails that i can send PGP or S/MIME encrypted messages but when i press the send button i get 2 error messages:

The encryption features require a secure web connection.

and

PGP Error: Need passphrase for personal private key.

Can anyone explain how to get a PGP or S/MIME key and how to use (install) it please !?
