FTP statistics stopped working

Our scheduled statistics task using AWStats has not worked for a couple of months. I've run it from the command prompt for hhtp traffic, and for notify, and it works. If I run it for ftp traffic, it just runs indefinately (hangs). I have to can it. Even for a domain that has no traffic, it will seemingly hang. It's only for ftp traffic though.

Does anyone know why this is? Where does it gather ftp statistics from?
