I need your feedback about Control Visibility!

Most of our customers are non-technical are only need features like Mail set up, spam settings, web stats and webmail, a lot of the stuff in setting they donl't understand so better to hide it as it only means they ask lots of questions !

It leaves Applications tab visible, but the only available applications would be those you uploaded on the server manually (if any)
And if there are no manually uploaded apps the application tab is hidden completely? pls give us a way to hide it completely for single customers (with service plan).

Could you tell more on these topics:
* what was the reason to hide "Settings"? It had assorted configuration options (in Plesk 10 they are positioned closely to a respective service)
* what is the reason to hide Applications completely? It is a convenience tool only, and your customer can still upload these applications manyally. Since 10.1.0 there would be ability to make selected Applications unavailable ("filter").
Regards

as it was said before many customers are not very technical so any tab/button/option confuses such users.
so i wanna give them only the options they realy need. dont want to answer questions like "what is this application-tab good for" you understand ;)?

so as much customization you can give us is nice to have in all parts of Plesk. Looking forward to see Plesk 10.1.0!

Hi,

We would like to see the ability to hide the "Mail" tab completely from the user control panel
as we do our mailservices on a different system not related with Plesk. For example one could
imagine if the mailbox limit is set to "0" would mean disabled and thus the "mail" option would not
be shown in the users control panel.

Christian

Hi Christian233,

You can hide "Mail" in upcoming 10.1 version (go to Server > Mail Server Settings)

Hope it helps

Regards

Why you removed the posted image Sergey?
Edit: oh image is up again;)

Please release 10.1 we all wanna see an x-mas present from Parallels;)

I did't remove it. :) Just used some weird image sharing solution initially. Now fixed and image is shown well.

It's also the same thing with databases or web users, etc. You can set them in your subsctiptions to 0 but they're still shown in customer control panel. And customer can't add any resource of that type, of course. Instead, I would hide them completely on first page.

Or universal solution would be -- to give administrators possibility to enable/disable any icon in customers panel.:)

Regards!

Hello cpes,

Thank you for information. We definitely need to fix it.

I agree the universal solution would give you full power, but it also may be excessive - if everything is already hidden according to your configuration of subscriptions, then you don't need to hide it manually.

Also I see another benefit of hiding based on subscription settings - service plans could be involved and a button may be available to Gold customers while not seen by Bronze ones. If hidden manually, either it requires more expensive per-user settings, or limited to more rigid server-wide choice.

Regards

yes! ;)

i totaly agree with this! hiding based on subscriptions would be the best way and the most powerful. but if you do it this way please make shure we have enough options in subscription settings to enable/disable nearly all features.

some more things: why i can set things like: "performance" -> "Maximum bandwidth usage", "webmailer" -> "horde & ATmail", "Enable mailing lists" in service plan creation?
i have not installed the apache bandwidth module and i dont have installed any webmailer nor mailman. so please grey this out if it is not available, it confuses!

one more thing: if my plesk is running in "VPSoptimized-mode" php via CGI is the only way to use PHP but in service plan i can choose apache module and fastcgi without any warning :(

please check also available and running apache modules! i can set ASP support, miva and SSI in service plan and subscription and non of this components is running on my server!

please fix this things, grey the buttons out, give us warning messages or something like that.

Guys,

We have a lot of requests from you about Control Visibility reincarnation as it was in Plesk 8.x version. For example:

Unfortunately it is very huge investment while most admins I believe would need just few controls hidden and we need to understand which ones. Once we know the list, we will seek what is the best way to manage them.
Therefore, could you please answer in this tread on the following simple question:

“Which exactly controls you need to hide and why?â€

Thank you for your help and cooperation!

Hello,

This Plesk Panel 10 + really makes me feel stupid with all kinds of issues, even something as simple as changing a user rule has stumped me.

Perhaps someone can shed some light on this where I missed the point.
To make a long story short, and perhaps provide more clarity, I have included some images.

I’m trying to provide log-in for users to manage just their email, predominantly for password change.

After User Role Properties “denied†settings and logging in with email user credentials…

…the following page provides more than I ever wished for...
home-tab2.jpg

Clicking on the “Users†tab, or on the “Users Accounts†text link reveals…
user-tab3.jpg

And clicking on contact name reveals everything, and “Subscription†every domain…

When all I need is just email preferences.

I really hope there is a better solution.

Thank you

We present customers with hosting with admin access and let them get on with it, however as we also offer to manage and monitor services on their behalf there are several classes of element we'd like to hide in order to prevent unnecessary support alerts.

First, any component that potentially allows root access (for example event manager and add modules)

Second, anything that impacts monitored aspects of the service (for example shutting down service or server, but restart is ok)

And finally, and I can't stress this enough, anything that means that we are paying for the privilege of advertising competitors services and have our customers siphoned away. For example, we offer our own domain name registration, mail, antispam and backup products and can do without "products from parallels partners" and similar.

Also, there should be a possibility to create only Customers withouth any domains with FTP accounts created simultaniously. This behaviour was in Plesk 8 and 9 branches, as the creation happened on seperate stages (on different pages).

However, on Plesk 10 GUI, where creation happens on single page (Customers -> Add New Customer), this could be easily achieved with the following way:

* Now on the third subheading that says "Website information - Properties of the website provisioned together with the subscription" should be changed an selection where there would be:

Website information
[X] Create also an subscription/service plan/web space with ftp accounts as follows:
[ ] Do not create any subscription/service plan/web space at this time

Many people have been dissatisfied with the fact that you cannot create new customers in Plesk 10 withouth creating an domain for them at the same time. However, this is needed in a lot of cases (for e.g. when you need to transfer a web hosting package and it's domains from one customer to another, you may need to create a new blank customer withouth any domains).

A lot of our customers are what you would call "managed" - BUT some want to have control over e-mail-accounts or ftp-users. Most of them have a very low technical knowledge. Many buttons means a lot of support through our company. Concentrate the visible functions and buttons to what each customer really needs.

Don't show empty tabs (e.g. disable applications, but still have the tab) - again this means a lot of questions we have to answer.

The way you could hide each single icon in plesk 8.3 and manage your settings in templates was just perfect. We would like to have the possibility to configure the desktop for each individual customer.

That's good point!

Will you make "FTP Users" button visible if you create a could of ftp users for such "managed" customer by their request?

60% of our customers are fully managed, which means they even don't need access to the panel. If one of them needs one more ftp-users they request this service from us.
But we also have customers which need to have ftp-accounts for their customers, they need to create or delete these accounts. If that's all they need the panel for, I would prefer to have a panel with only contact/login-data-form and the ftp-users-button.

@Sergey
1. we have discussed now so much over the last weeks and i thought parallels is on a good way.
now i tested 10.1.1. I disabled all my applications in "application vault and YES! the "tab" in SMB Panel Menu is gone away! jiha! rocks! but... on SMB start page i see this:

attachment.php

why?? is it so complicated?? we discussed to hide ALL informations related to hidden feature and you agreed! now on the SMB startpage there is an absolut useless information about "Installed Applications" and no content... cant understand this.

2. give us options to stop this new advertisements!! http://forum.parallels.com/showthread.php?t=108053
why we have to ask about such things? why you cant provide an option to hide such things in the same release you included this things? you know many many of your customers dont like want it

3. why is it so complicated to hide "panel extras" its cool we can hide it now. but why that strange way with Partner API license change and so on?? can i do this? i am not an "Parallels Partner" why not just some buttons in our admin control panel? in my oppinion you dont want that your customers disable this things and so you provided a strange way to do that instead of some checkboxes in our control panel:(

Sorry about that. :( Looks like internal miscommunication. To avoid such cases we are doing now a complete review of all controls and their impact on UI items visibility.

Please note, that some fixes just didn't get into 10.1.1 - though shipped today, the development is frozen in advance to perform all necessary tests (was already frozen at the time of our talk in December).
