Hi,

We have installed SmarterMail 4 an plan to switch to it from MailEnable. We are unable to complete the process, even when we change the MailServer version in components and wait 5 h the plesk page gets an timeout error. Then we see the migration utility have created some domains under SM directory but no all of them and Plesk fallbacks to ME.

Is there any way to make this process manually or can we look at some logs to see what is doing ? Anyone has experienced this problem ?

We have changed the php script timeout to 60000 in php.ini BTW.

If we can access to the source code of these utils we can look at it to fix it.
 
Thank you for your reply, we have done so and got the same result (the same numbers of accounts were migrated but not all). It seems the script give ups at some time but as we can't see any log files we don't know what was doing really. Any suggestion ?
 
Yes, we found a message in the logs saying there were some accounts in MailEnable with short password, then we have corrected it but again the migration fails and now there is no error in the log.

Please go to SmarterMail as administrator, navigate on page Settings > General Settings > Security and set "Minimum Password Length" to 0.

Surely Plesk 8.2 supports SM 4.2, but I guess not :(

Does Plesk 8.2 support at least dictionary checking, my 8.1.1 doesn't :(

If you wish to protect your users from dictionary attacks by not allowing them to use simple passwords, select the Check the passwords for mailboxes in the dictionary option.
A dictionary attack is when someone tries to find out a valid user name and password by running a program that tries different combinations of dictionary words in different languages. Dictionary attacks can be successful because many users choose their passwords carelessly.

This does not appear to check disctionary based words.
Where does Plesk look for a dictionary?

Note. In order for this option to work you need to make sure that the Password must meet complexity requirements option is switched on in your server's Local Security Policy settings (the option is located in Start > Administrative Tools > Local Security Policy > Account Polices > Password policy).

I enabled this optionon the server but now when creating mail user names I receive this error constantly:

Error: Unable to set password:
The password is incorrect, use from 4 up to 14 characters. The password should not contain mail name as its part.
Only Latin characters, no dictionary words (optional).

English uppercase characters (A through Z)
English lowercase characters (a through z)
Base 10 digits (0 through 9)
Non-alphabetic characters (for example, !, $, #, %)
Complexity requirements are enforced when passwords are changed or created.

I think this is beta quality software and shouldn't be in the options. We have even paid some SM licenses for nothing.

Please enable Plesk Debug mode and try to switch Mail server again.
Next find error messages in Event Log and put it here.

To enable Plesk Debug mode please set registry
[HKLM\SOFTWARE\PLESK\PSA Config\Config]
"Debug"=dword:0x00000001
Please disable it after switching.
 
Hi

I'm having exactely the same problem under 7.5.6 running on W2K3 x64 SP1. I've managed to get rid of the Workstation and WINS error by manually starting the services, but in the end - still no success, same error message. Turning on the debug messages just gave plenty of mysql searches as info, but no clear indication, so I assume at the core there is the NET 2.0 error that should help us to find out what's happening. But I don't know where that stacktrace would be found...

ok, I had to switch of the SmartMail Web Server and turn on IIS (following the docs of SmartMail)

this resulted in 404 errors, after enabling .NET 2.0 in Bad Data exceptions in a Crypto lib, then I had then to activate .NET 2.0 x64, which resulted in problems with hotlinkprot.dll and sitepreview.dll, after removing these from the isapi filters. I at last was able to login correctly to the SmartMailer using IE. But since I cannot get higher than plesk 7.5.6 I had to rename the SMWebSrv service in the regeditor and add another service with the same name (FireDaemon came to rescue here) so that the migration script still things it is starting and stopping SMWebSrv ..

I wish these config facts had been editable somewhere ....
