Is it possible to install MSDE outside of the plesk software installation and it still work through Plesk? I have been trying to download it through Plesk and it will get about 1 MB downloaded before it times out and freezes up. The people it is hosted with refuse to help unless I pay them an arm and a leg.

You want to install MSDE outside of Plesk, but you are trying to download it through Plesk? Did you try downloading MSDE from microsoft's website and install it separately? Is there any benefit of having MSDE installed outside of Plesk?
