Issue Persistent WordPress Redirection Problem

SunevaL

New Pleskian
Greetings all:

My apologies in advance due to client pressure I have only searched for the past three hours for a resolution to this problem and I am out of ideas.

The domain: Homes in Greater New Orleans – Presented by Jamie Johnson, Your Trusted Realtor

The setup:
Centos 6.5
Plesk Onyx
PHP 5.6
Shared Hosting
Let's Encrypt Cert
Nginx/Apache

The Problem: Creating a HTTPS Wordpress site for a real estate agent. Approx. every 30 minutes I receive the dreaded "page is no displaying correctly - too many redirects" error. Running the Plesk Repair Web fixes the problem for a few minutes and then it returns. This site is using the IDX Broker plugin

What I have done:

Regenerated the .htaccess file (if there is one for a Nginx setup, this would be helpful)
Employed Pleask Repair Web (web, db, all)
Changed Preferred URL hosting setting to 'None"
Flushed the DNS Cache
Cleared cookies

I would appreciate fresh eyes on this problem.

Many thanks,
Lightfoot

Hi SunevaL,

could you pls. tell us WHERE you received the error:
Approx. every 30 minutes I receive the dreaded "page is no displaying correctly - too many redirects" error.

Regenerated the .htaccess file (if there is one for a Nginx setup, this would be helpful)
Nginx can't read ".htaccess" - files, why you have the option to use "Additional nginx directives" at your domain specific "Apache & nginx Settings".
Consider to use the free Plesk extension "htaccess to nginx", which helps to translate ".htaccess" - content into "nginx directives". ;)

Changed Preferred URL hosting setting to 'None"
Consider to choose either "www.YOUR-DOMAIN.COM" or "YOUR-DOMAIN.COM", in combination with "Permanent SEO-safe 301 redirect from HTTP to HTTPS", to avoid issues/errors/problems with redirects and avoid additional redirects in ".htaccess" - files and additional nginx directives. ;)

In addition, avoid "mixed content", as you use currently for your content ( example: http://img.youtube.com/.... as you can investigate, such MIXED content ( http AND https ) will cause issues/errors/problems, when using "https" for your site.

Thank you for your prompt reply.

I have installed the extension, and implemented the other suggestions-I have removed the videos, changed the URL Preferences and still the problem persists..

Where does the page redirect error appear? When I try to login from the Plesk panel or if I try to view the site after using the Customizer feature. Could it the SSL certificate causing all of these problems

Hi SunevaL,

actually, you recently changed the certificate to a certificate, which is issued for:
Code:
E = [email protected]
CN = sunevawebcasting.com
O = Suneva Webcasting LLC
L = New Orleans
S = Louisiana
C = US
...but the domain is: homesingreaterneworleans.com

Due to the fact, that both domains redirect to different IPs, I assume, that you use the certificate from "sunevawebcasting.com" as default certificate for both IPs ( pls. check : => HOME > Tools & Settings > IP Addresses )

You changed as well the content recently, which leads to the question, HOW did you install the content? And did the new installation routine placed as well an additional ".htaccess" - file? If "yes", did you consider to remove it as suggested?
Pls. investigate your current configuration files for the domain "homesingreaterneworleans.com" ( /var/www/vhosts/system/homesingreaterneworleans.com/conf ) and consider to post them if you desire help with your investigations.

When I try to login from the Plesk panel
... you mean, that you used the WP - Toolkit to login to your wordpress - site, instead of using the URL .../wp-login.php ?

or if I try to view the site after using the Customizer feature.
Pls. tell us, WHICH "Customizer feature" you mean?

Could it the SSL certificate causing all of these problems
At the current moment, the answer is yes, because the wrong certificate is used for the domain. ;)

I understand what you are saying. However I initially installed an SSL certificate for homesingreaterneworleans.com using Let's Encrypt-this application did not ask for any details at all, but verified to the domain name.

Because of the third party plugins that MUST be used for this project, the vendor of the plugins advised me to remove the Certificate. Even after I did this the problem continued. Now I discover that the website was transferred from another DNS service using 4 name servers where we are using 2.
Is it possible that this is the problem? Is there anyway to not use a certificate which will cause this problem to continue, what can be done to resolve the problem?

Thank you,
Lightfoot

Hi SunevaL,

again, you leave out some essential informations, so that a decent answer can't be given to your questions:

If the vendor of the plugin advised you to remove the certificate ( which is a rather strange advise from my point of view. Pls. consider to CHANGE such a plugin, to something that supports SSL - support! ), you would certainly remove SSL - support as well for this domain.

Go to your "Hosting Settings" of your domain and disable "SSL/TLS support" and "Permanent SEO-safe 301 redirect from HTTP to HTTPS" and set the certificate to "Not selected".
Consider as well to change the setting at "IP Addresses" for the domain specific IP and change "Default site" to "None" if you use a "shared IP" setting.

I apologize if I was not clear, lack of sleep does that to a person and I am not nearly as capable as you are in terms of explaining these problems. Of course I am sure you have many days where you do not sleep much as well because of so many questions.

Yes I do want the domain to be secure, otherwise I would not have spent this much time on the problem.

The plugins are Impress and Impress Listings by IDX Broker. This is a real estate website with a dedicated subdomain that works with an dynamic feed to post MLS listings. So the homepage will be on the domain and the property listings will on a page generated by a cloud hosted feed to the subdomain.

I also took a look at the template provided and changed to a different one and found inconsistencies in the database which I am working to resolve. If you believe that the redirection problem stems from the certificate, then I will attempt to secure this site again, hopefully better results.

Thank you very much for your time and your expert advice. I will do my best to provide more accurate details when I post in the future.

Cheers,
Lightfoot

Hey guys,
The same problem with me and redirect it in every 20 minutes. Without this everything is the same, the problem and solution.

I didn't read the whole thread.

but this can happen when you have

WordPress Address (URL)
Site Address (URL)

are set to http:// and .htaccess /or a plugin or Plesk is set to Permanent SEO-safe 301 redirect from HTTP to HTTPS and forcing https
