Resolved Plesk DNS or hoster DNS?

igork1

Basic Pleskian
Hi,

I moved DNS records from hoster's nameservers (OVH) to Plesk of my VPS.

Are there any negative effects of this decision? In terms of reliability and speed of access for visitors.

I used ns1.mydomain.com and ns2.mydomain.com records (associated with my IP address) which are were added to domain's registrar as nameservers.

P.S. I did it to easily get DKIM for emails via Plesk DNS hosting.

Hi igork1,

Best practice is to deploy two or more different name servers because of high availability and reliability. You can sync master DNS on Plesk with slave DNS servers by using the "Slave DNS manager" extension. Another way is to use extensions like Amazon Route53 or DigitalOcean DNS, in such case, your DNS records will be served by external DNS servers and will be synced with Plesk DNS. Unfortunately, an extension for synchronization with OVH DNS does not exist.

If something happens with the server or DNS service on the server, the Internet can't resolve DNS records to IP-address because only one server can do it. As an example: install security updates, some network problems, etc.

Hi,

Many thanks for your reply!

I will try to configure secondary DNS server in addition to Plesk DNS.
