• The APS Catalog has been deprecated and removed from all Plesk Obsidian versions.
Applications already installed from the APS Catalog will continue working. However, Plesk will no longer provide support for APS applications.
  • Please be aware: with the Plesk Obsidian 18.0.78 release, the support for the ngx_pagespeed.so module will be deprecated and removed from the sw-nginx package.

Question Plesk Installer asking for root password, which it didn't do before

jnthn

New Pleskian
Server operating system version
AlmaLinux 10.1 (Heliotrope Lion)
Plesk version and microupdate number
18.0.77 Update #3
Previously I could open the Plesk Installer from Plesk itself, and I could install/update components immediately.

When I open the Plesk Installer now, it's asking me to enter a root password. However, I don't have one, because I'm using key-based authentication for SSH'ing into the root account.

What is the reason for this change? Why could I open the Plesk Installer without a password before, and now not any more? Do I need to set up a password for the root account now, or is there another way to make the Plesk Installer work again like before?

Trying to access the update page to install (or uninstall) updates or components (can sometimes) require you to login with the primary Admin account (not the root credentials, that wont work).

That doesn't work unfortunately. When entering my Plesk admin account credentials I get:
Unable to log you in. Check whether you entered the right login name and password, and that the user account exists in the system.

Additional information: I see that when opening admin/update/product from Plesk, I get redirected to /installer/?secret=&locale=nl-NL. Here, the secret parameter is empty, while on my other VPS I see some kind of long random string is passed there. Perhaps this explains why I need to log in manually?

Actually, I just noticed I am mistaken. You DO need to login with Root credentials. Sorry about that.

If I am not mistaken, you can still set a password for the root user when logged to the server via SSH with key bases authentication.

Update: Right now it's working again (I can open the installer from Plesk without logging in as root user). In the meantime I restarted the server once more. No idea what was wrong last time…
