/sbin/statistics how to reduce cpu usage

Hey is there anyway to reduce the CPU usage?

I notice for backup in server options you can select execute backup processes with low priority.

Surely there must be a way of limiting the /statistics.

I put some of my high traffic domains from awstats back to webalizer and it made a small difference, but my server CPU gets hammered at 04:07UTC when the /sbin/statistics runs

Anyone?
