SMTP Authentication Credentials Rejected

flexage

New Pleskian
Hi Guys,

I've just set up a new email account in Plesk 11 and I'm having a bit of trouble authenticating.

I've tried 3 different email clients (Outlook/Thunderbird/eM Client) to no avail.

IMAP connects and new mail is recieved... however SMTP rejects the user credentials (and I am 99% sure the credentials are correct and without typo's). Iam also fairly sure that that outlook managed to briefly authenticate over SMTP the first time I tried setting it up, as I received 2 outlook test messages. However moments later the credentials were just flat down rejected and have been ever since.

Looking at the mail log I can see these errors:

Oct 18 05:35:40 tgdb postfix/smtpd[15876]: connect from host86-181-74-84.range86-181.btcentralplus.com[86.181.74.84]
Oct 18 05:35:41 tgdb postfix/smtpd[15876]: warning: SASL authentication failure: no secret in database
Oct 18 05:35:41 tgdb postfix/smtpd[15876]: warning: host86-181-74-84.range86-181.btcentralplus.com[86.181.74.84]: SASL DIGEST-MD5 authentication failed: One time use of a plaintext password will enable requested mechanism for user
Oct 18 05:35:42 tgdb postfix/smtpd[15881]: connect from host86-181-74-84.range86-181.btcentralplus.com[86.181.74.84]
Oct 18 05:35:43 tgdb postfix/smtpd[15881]: warning: SASL authentication failure: realm changed: authentication aborted
Oct 18 05:35:43 tgdb postfix/smtpd[15881]: warning: host86-181-74-84.range86-181.btcentralplus.com[86.181.74.84]: SASL DIGEST-MD5 authentication failed: authentication failure

AFAIK I have configured all available settings in the Plesk frontend correctly, so I am unsure as to why these errors are occuring or how to fix them.

If anyone has any insight I would very appreciative!

Regards,

Alex

Try to rebuild mailserver settings with

# /usr/local/psa/admin/sbin/mchk --without-spam

Igor's suggession will help alot resolve the problem, however I also hope your are providing FULL email address and password as Username & Password for SMTP & POP3
