Question SMTP Only Email Accounts

Bobbbb

Regular Pleskian
Hello,

In our previous version of Plesk (Plesk 11 on CentOS w/ Postfix) it was possible to have (incoming) Mail Service disabled for a Subscription, but still add an email account and use it for sending via SMTP. SMTP authentications for those e-mail account succeeded, and mail was sent.

Some end users, with Mail Service disabled, because their mail resides on external services, such as Office 365, used the Plesk local e-mail account as an "SMTP only" account, for sending some automatic notifications from some devices (such as voicemail servers) that did not work well with Office 365's SMTP. This worked for many years.

We've recently migrated to Plesk Onyx. It appears the behavior has changed. Now, SMTP authentications are rejected for the e-mail accounts set up in Plesk, if the Mail Service is disabled. Prior to migration, SMTP would work, even with Mail Service disabled (which was required to prevent other customers on the same server from not being able to e-mail this customer).

Why was this behavior changed? Is this the new intended behavior? Is there any way to return to the old behavior?

Thanks for your time and suggestions.

Best Regards,
Bob
