Strategies for patching / updating the operating system after installing plesk

It is critical that i keep my freebsd box w/ plesk 8.0.1 installed up to date with the security patches and updates as soon as they come out.

Unfortunately, certain patches, such as FreeBSD-SA-06:23.openssl, requires a recompile of the entire operating system thus actually updating the version of the operating system and potentially "breaking" the plesk installation.

I'd like to hear strategies, not necessarily just with freebsd, for keeping their machines patched and updated without breaking plesk.

Cheers!

so essentially, when you install plesk, you will not be able to patch your system accordingly?

This is frankly an idiotic way to release software.

how can it be expected to not keep on top of critical security flaws and patch accordingly to protect your clients and your own interest from a legal and practical perspective?

I have done a make buildworld & buildkernel after cvsupping the source on my freebsd 6.0 box several times (after installing plesk 8.0.1 of course), bringing it to 6.1 and even 6.2-prerelease, both times breaking plesk or causing its integral modules to malfunction or behave strangely.

I'd appreciate any input or thoughts on this topic. I have yet to purchase a plesk license, because this is the most important issue for me and it has yet to be addressed!

Thanks.

I've been using Plesk on FreeBSD for a while, and as long as you don't upgrade past 6.0-STABLE or 5.3-STABLE (or whatever OS release plesk was installed on) you shouldn't run into any problems.
