• Hi, Pleskians! We are running a UX testing of our upcoming product intended for server management and monitoring.
We would like to invite you to have a call with us and have some fun checking our prototype. The agenda is pretty simple - we bring new design and some scenarios that you need to walk through and succeed. We will be watching and taking insights for further development of the design.
If you would like to participate, please use this link to book a meeting. We will sent the link to the clickable prototype at the meeting.
  • (Plesk for Windows):
MySQL Connector/ODBC 3.51, 5.1, and 5.3 are no longer shipped with Plesk because they have reached end of life. MariaDB Connector/ODBC 64-bit 3.2.4 is now used instead.
  • The Horde webmail has been deprecated. Its complete removal is scheduled for April 2025. For details and recommended actions, see the Feature and Deprecation Plan.

Issue Unable to send emails using SMTP

Robin McDermott

Basic Pleskian
Server operating system version
AlmaLinux 9.5
Plesk version and microupdate number
Plesk Obsidian 18.0.65 Update #2
I have just upgraded to a new server. It appears that all settings are the same, yet two programs that we have that send emails through SMTP are not sending the emails. I see nothing in the mail queue and nothing in the logs in plesk telling me that they are being sent. I might not be looking in the right place. The old and new servers are both behind the same hardware firewall and emails going out fine from the old server so I assume that the necessary ports are open. IP addresses for the three domains that send emails are the same as they were when they were on the old server.

I am not seeing any error messages. When I send the test to a gmail address, it goes through. Yes, emails sent through the two programs are not getting sent.

When I try to send using one of the programs, I do get an error message: Relay Access Denied

You get this error message because the outgoing mail server is refusing to relay your email. This typically happens when authentication is not set up.

To fix this, configure the program to authenticate on the outgoing mail server by providing the email address and password associated with the account. Most email programs have a setting like "Outgoing mail server requires authentication" that needs to be enabled.

Thank you for this information. I do have the authentication set with an email address that is on the server and the associated password for that email box.

Here is my log from the old server which used Qmail.

The new server uses Post-Fix since Qmail is no longer available.

Both are sending from the same program.

Both also go through Imperva for security purposes.

I wonder if there is a problem with a setting in post-fix?

TIA,
Robin

Unfortunately, I have my server through Aptum, so they are supposed to provide support, but I am getting nowhere with them, and I am pretty desperate at this point. This can't be that hard. I would be happy to pay someone to help me solve this issue.

Did you see this?
"You can still get Plesk Support if your license does not include Plesk support. It's free for the first month.
Just follow the link to the store and don't forget to cancel it when the issue has been solved."

Here is a follow-up to this issue and how I resolved it. Thanks @Maarten for suggesting TWICE that I subscribe to Plesk Support to address this issue. The service was exceptional and I appreciate knowing that I can always access this resource in the future for a very reasonable $10/month. The team worked relentlessly on this issue, their communications we excellent - truly pros and very respectful of the customer.

Ultimately, they were not able to resolve my issue. As best as I could tell, I can't use the same domain to send email through our MS 365 account and the server. Although Plesk support would have continued working on this had I not found another solution. I ended up signing up for an SMTP relay service through Postmark (postmarkapp.com). So far it is working really well and I was able to subscribe to their lowest level plan given that I send under 10,000 relayed emails/month. Deliverability of our emails has increased which is what is all about anyway.

But, thank you Plesk support! I highly recommend your services.
