Hello

I am unable to update my plesk boxes... Here is what I have

2 Virtuozzo HW Nodes

(HW Node 1)
VE1
RHEL 3 template
PLESK CMAIL SERVER
PLESK 8.1

(HW NODE 2)
VE 1
RHEL 3 Template
PLESK EXPAND 2.2 (recently upgraded)
PLESK 8.1

VE 2
RHEL 4 Template
PLESK 8.1

I am getting this error from VE1 in HWNODE2..... I used to have the problem that I could not update to 8.2 because of EXPAND inside Virtuozzo... I dont know if this is still the case.. KB doesnt have much... Even though I pay for support, i havent recieved a decent answer (other than being referred to the KB which is where i search beforehand anyways)... i would love some input from anyone who has an idea of what I could do (PS... I keep up with SUS so it shouldnt be a problem)

Thanks
Leo

For me the only thing that needs boost is psa-8.3.0

Which if you dont have, should break psa.

When you try and remove it, it will tell you if anything depends on it.

do
rpm -e boost boost-devel

Then install PSA 8.3 and it will then re-install boost as needed.

[root@server1 root]# rpm -e boost boost-devel
error: package boost-devel is not installed
error: Failed dependencies:
boost >= 1.32.0-3 is needed by (installed) expand-2.1.0-68_psa8.1
boost >= 1.32.0-3 is needed by (installed) expand-2.2.2-20

I guess as long as I have Expand running I cant upgrade to 8.3?

BTW Thanks for the responses... (how rude of me not to do this earlier)

lol

i dont know what expand is, but if you can live with out it, remove it as well then install 8.3 and then reinstall expand if you still want it.

cant live without it... Expand is an "extention" to plesk it allows for certain services to be centralized in one specialized server. (IE CMAIL or centralized mail) or centralized DNSs and/or databases... Ideally you roll out one of these babies and you could split your infrastructure pretty decently... Should work well in theory... practice not so much... I am not too happy with the way SWSoft's sales agent worked me during presale into a $3000 licensing contract...

Oh I see - coincidentally I was just looking at the psa expand documentation and giong through the demo so that I can see what it is all about - looks good, except I dont think it can do what I want, I want it to be able to load balance servers so that client accounts exist on both servers, domains on both servers, mirror vhosts directories, etc. Do you know if it can do that?

For the ugprade, you may want to contact your sales rep or file a bug report to get upgraded.

nope... expand works on the concept of syncronization.. you have for example (if you pay for the license) a centralized mail.. so you can have several plesk servers connecting and using only 1 mail server...

I tried to use load balancing (similar to what you want) with plesk 5 some 6 years ago.. granted the technology has improve substantially since then... there is no way to do it at a reasonable cost unless you do the implementation yourself.

expand I fear is something you want to have when you can afford to have like 3 dedicated DNS servers some 3-4 mail servers and some 5 app server and some 2 database servers... and you want one single point of administration for everything in that case you want expand.

I am pro-do it yourself in hosting cases... the only problem is that you cannot delegate administration to your clients unless you develop your own admin panel. If your clients are willing to forego any administration I would def recommend to do it the hard way..
its more efficient.
