Resolved Unable to update Plesk - without error

Andreas Bangemann

New Pleskian
Hi,
i've got a server with Ubuntu 16.04.4 LTS and Plesk Onyx Version 17.8.11 Update #11.

If I try to update Plesk, I get the following output:

Code:
Installation wird nicht fortgesetzt

Die Ausführung von apg-get ist mit folgender Meldung fehlgeschlagen:
Reading package lists...
Building dependency tree...
Reading state information...

I tried:
  • apt-get udate
  • apt-get upgrade
  • apt-get upgrade -f
  • apt-get clean && apt-get autoclean && apt-get autoremove
  • apt-get -f install
All without success.

Someone an idea to solve the problem?

Andreas.

That's weird error, something blocks the connection or the installation files are corrupted I'm not sure.

1- Try apt update without (get)
2- plesk repair all -n (see if there is any errors with plesk)
3- check your firewall with your hosting provider

perhaps can you check if there are any ERROR messages in /var/log/plesk/systemupdatestool.log and post it here

Notice: A few weeks ago, I tried to install OpenXchange, but it didn' t work!

Try sudo apt-get install apt-transport-https and then try your update again.

Notice: A few weeks ago, I tried to install OpenXchange, but it didn' t work!
Bad idea to install any serious third-party software on the same server with Plesk.
I'd suggest you remove all OpenXchange packages first and then run

# plesk installer --select-release-current --reinstall-patch --upgrade-installed-components

It is usual Linux administrative task with OS package manager, apt-get in your case.
If you are not familiar with it - try to hire experienced Linux admin.

OK, I
  • removed all open-xchange packages
  • startet # plesk installer --select-release-current --reinstall-patch --upgrade-installed-components
  • rebootet the server
  • started the plesk-update at plesk-webinterface
... same issue:

Check your /etc/apt/sources.list for any references to the open-xchange repository and remove those lines. You have an issue with your apt setup, so I'd start looking there.
Also check everything else in /etc/apt for any references to open-xchange.

Code:
# See sources.list(5) for more information, especialy
# Remember that you can only use http, ftp or file URIs
# CDROMs are managed through the apt-cdrom tool.

So I suggest you focus on troubleshooting your apt issues, before trying to update Plesk.

* Check apt configuration:
sudo apt-config dump | grep open-xchange
sudo apt-config dump | grep sources

=> check output again for any references to open-xchange

* Clean apt cache:
sudo apt-get clean

* Update your system packages
sudo apt update
sudo apt upgrade

=> Check for errors and google them how to resolve them

You are my hero!!!!

I think the last problem was to clean the cache and update apt.
Now the Plesk-Update finished without any error! Thanks a lot!!!

Can you tell me how you fixed this issue?:

The NS configuration file '/var/named/run-root/etc/named.conf' is
absent ............................................................ [ERROR]

I am getting the same set of errors. I upgraded Plesk Onyx successfully yesterday, then went home, and when the system updates ran overnight something happened... I came back this morning and NONE of the websites are accessible, I think this might be the issue. I also don't know much about server admin, I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction...
