  • The BIND DNS server has already been deprecated and removed from Plesk for Windows.
If a Plesk for Windows server is still using BIND, the upgrade to Plesk Obsidian 18.0.70 will be unavailable until the administrator switches the DNS server to Microsoft DNS. We strongly recommend transitioning to Microsoft DNS within the next 6 weeks, before the Plesk 18.0.70 release.
  • The Horde component is removed from Plesk Installer. We recommend switching to another webmail software supported in Plesk.

Upgrade without license fails

Hi, we want to test the new Plesk 10 and so i've tryed to upgrade from latest Plesk 9 version. Because it's just a test-server we don't have a license for it and using the default "plsk000000000000".
Then Plesk tries to install the upgrade and send me an errormail with

Ask KA server for key update: server url=https://ka.parallels.com:5224/ product login=PleskLogin current key number=plsk000000000000 to version=10.0.1
libswkey error code is 5
libswkey error description: Key plsk000000000000 has neither update ticker nor body
Unable to collect information for sending to the licensing server
Synchronizing the Debian APT package index files...
Error: Failed to check whether a new license key is available.

We don't want to make the upgrade on our real servers before testing it and we don't want to buy a license for our playground, so it would be very nice that this works without license.

Thank You
Shyper

Use /usr/local/psa/admin/bin/autoinstaller with --ignore-key-errors option.

Thank you, that solved it. But now he is saying that i don't have a license and askes for order a 14 day trial. Do I understand right, that Plesk 10 don't have the default license for one domain for free? And will it ever be added?
'Cause now i can test Plesk for 14 days, but if i want to test something with plesk in future (like new options or something) i don't have the chance anymore?

Yes, by default you can't create domains/clients on Plesk as it was on default Plesk 9.x versions. Now you should request trial 14 days license key with unlimited domains/clients/etc.

I really dislike the new licensing of Plesk 10!!!
I'm running a Webserver with a normal commercial Plesk 10 license, but for my testing server, the price for another license is just to much.
With Plesk 9 it was great. I could test everything on the test server, before installing on the real server. This was really helpful, particularly since Plesk Updated tend to have a lot of bugs...

I do not understand what is the problem to request free unlimited trial license for test server?

Request trial license again. I hope that your tests will not be continued infinitely?

Well, I would need it at least everytime, when there is a Plesk Update, or when I would like to try out a new Plesk configuration. So lets say, about 4 times a year...

This your right to buy the license or not. To request trial license or not. But we can't always provide trial license for you.

Oh this is a very helpful answer...
I do have a license on the public server, but I think the price is a little bit to high, for a test server, that is used a handful of times in a year. It would be a real customer service to provide a 1 domain license as you did before version 10. I would even pay for it, if the sum would be reasonable.

Besides it should be pointed out, that it is Parallels, that publishes Updates with severe errors. So it seems to be necessary to have this kind of testing server, to know what will happen on the production server early enough!
I don't know since how many update cycles I had to to manually correct the "me" configuration file of qmail after a Plesk update. Every time, I had to also contact some of the big Mail-Providers in Germany, since they blocked us after sending a wrong HELO...
Only good thing about this repeating error was, that after the first update I already knew what to look for...
