  • The BIND DNS server has already been deprecated and removed from Plesk for Windows.
If a Plesk for Windows server is still using BIND, the upgrade to Plesk Obsidian 18.0.70 will be unavailable until the administrator switches the DNS server to Microsoft DNS. We strongly recommend transitioning to Microsoft DNS within the next 6 weeks, before the Plesk 18.0.70 release.
  • The Horde component is removed from Plesk Installer. We recommend switching to another webmail software supported in Plesk.

Backup hangup server!

Hello folks,
I've done several tests, I've read several post in this forum and others but none seems to have the solution to this problem.
I've a server with about 100 domains with Plesk 9.0.1 and CentOS 5.2, more or less is working fine, but scheduled backup in FTP repository is very bad.
When I've tested it on a few domains only, was working not so much good, but working. Now with about 100 domains is not possible to use scheduled backup in FTP repository, this because the server hang up working to this backups.
The server is a recent Opteron with 2GB of RAM and a SATA RAID 1 disks, not exactly a bad server. But is impossible to to do backups with Plesk, because causes Courier daemon shutdown, Plesk shutdown and so on. Disabling backups the server works fine.
I'm asking if there is a possible solution and if Parallels is near to release a bugfixing for this IMPORTANT problem that became unusefull backup module of Plesk. Another think that I don't understand if why backups in FTP repository are ony .tar file and not .tgz that would be smaller in size and faster to transfer by FTP.

Thanks in advance for replies.

Bye

Andrea

Are you disabling the domains during backup? I unchecked this so the backup process does not take domains down.

Yes, I must uncheck it because some domains after backup will not came back online and I should enable them manually.

I am sure this will solve your issue as until the backup is complete it keeps the domain offline.

I think the addition of allowing the domain to be suspended during backup is stupid on the fact we never had this option and then it gets defaulted to on when it's added - stupid!

I run a busy forum and my backups have always worked NOT suspending the domain. Depending on your SQL database and size your domain could be off for ages!

Also there is an option to run the backup as lower priority this also drops the server load heaps. I also in the cron set the statistics to nice -19 to run it at the lowest priority drops load heaps!

Thanks for suggestions!

I also think that suspend a domain for backup is not so clever, also because our customers are not so happy to see a Plesk page instead of their website :) also because not always the domain became unsuspended at the end of backup.
I've unchecked the option you told me, but nothing change, also I've tried to check the option in backup settings to lower the priority of backups, and the same server hangup. The only thing I've not tried yet is renice the job in cron may be the solution?

The backup module is very bugged, I hope Paralells will release a patch to solve this problem because is very important backup for websites (Parallels are you listening?:) ).
