  • The BIND DNS server has already been deprecated and removed from Plesk for Windows.
If a Plesk for Windows server is still using BIND, the upgrade to Plesk Obsidian 18.0.70 will be unavailable until the administrator switches the DNS server to Microsoft DNS. We strongly recommend transitioning to Microsoft DNS within the next 6 weeks, before the Plesk 18.0.70 release.
  • The Horde component is removed from Plesk Installer. We recommend switching to another webmail software supported in Plesk.

can't receive mail after completed server backup

I do a nightly server backup to an ftp server. I have 40 domains and the total data is 35 gb.

After the backup successfully completes, one particular domain can no longer receive email. All email sent to will bounce with:

Sorry. Although I'm listed as a best-preference MX or A for that host,
it isn't in my control/locals file, so I don't treat it as local. (#5.4.6)

After a restart of qmail mail will be delivered again, but obviously this is not ideal.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Willem

I have already rebuilt the qmail config using the mchk utility and i am aware of what the bounce message means.

The domain that the email bounces for IS correctly entered in the rcpthosts and the virtualdomains files.
As soon as I restart qmail everything starts working again.

Something that happens during a complete server backup confuses qmail. I read somewhere else that it might have to do with having domain alias, but other domains that have a domain alias do not have this issue, and regardless of that removing the alias is not an acceptable solution
