Plesk Obsidian Version 18.0.44 Update #3 , last updated: June 17, 2022 06:26:03
Hi all,

We have a plesk panel with Plesk Obsidian Version 18.0.44 and recently, we got all emails sent from the server to recipients email's spam/junk folder.

We have updated SPF, DKIM and DMARC records.

But SPF, and DMARC records are passed in Newsletters spam test by mail-tester.com and DKIM is not signed error occurred.

When we further analysed, we found the Plesk Obsidian Version 18.0.44 generates 1024-bit key and not 2048key length.

Hope the current Plesk Obsidian Version 18.0.44 doesnt has this option to generate 2048 key as per the below.

Note: We are a german company owning many 10 - 15 websites in plesk server.

So to fix the email spam issue whether we need to upgrade to latest Plesk Obsidian.

If so, whether we need to take any backups of all the websites.

If in case we face any issues, is it possible to revert to older version.

Or else is it okay to fix the email spam issue with the same Plesk Obsidian version.

@Peter Debik As we are new to upgrade the server, we need to know whether we need to take any backups?
If so, what are all the details to be backup before performing the upgrade.
Also once we upgrade the Ubuntu hope we have to then upgrade the Plesk. Is it correct?

It's always a good idea to have a full backup before upgrading a software. The same applies to this case. If you are on a virtual server, the best choice is to create a snapshot backup via controlpanel of your virtualization environment (your provider's controlpanel respectively). If you are on a dedicated server, at least do a full backup with the Plesk backup manager and store that backup on an external FTP repository, not on the same server.

Yes, after the Ubuntu upgrade, a Plesk update is required.

Thanks for your quick reply @Peter Debik

One more question, whether this Ubuntu and Plesk upgrade will resolve the email sent to spam folder issue.

As we are a dedicated server, as per your suggestions, we will take the full backup of the server externally but whether this upgrade will remove our ssl certificates installed in our server?

Whether we can downgrade to older version if we face any problem while upgrading?

Also whether the websites went down while upgrade i.e how much time approximately it will take to update the server.

I admittedly do not know specific and reliable answers to your questions. I'd always plan many hours for an upgrade procedure. You cannot downgrade if things go wrong. If possible in any way you could consider having a staging server where you practice all necessary steps. My experience here is that complicated processes done for the first time tend to fail.

What you could do is get a new server with the latest Ubuntu, install Plesk on it and then use Plesk Migrator to migrate the existing sites to the new server. That might be better if you have not yet made experience with upgrades.

Hi @jebazerosoft

Apart from the OS upgrade you should look at this, as it is not enough as it only applies to new subscriptions and not to existing ones, and there is no clear procedure to move existing subscriptions from 1024 to 2048.

Maybe @Peter Debik can help us.

Regards
