non-www version recommended... why?

JohanSki

Basic Pleskian
I read this in the Plesk manual:

Typically, any website is available on two URLs: with the www prefix (like in www.example.com) and without it (like in example.com). We recommend that you always redirect visitors to one of these URLs (typically to the non-www version).
Why does Plesk recommend the non-www version?

1. www is an atavism
2. existence or absence of www is doesn't matter for Google or other search engines
3. redirect from/to www is necessary just for backward compatibility. One user prefer domain names with www and other - without.

>> 1. www is an atavism

Wow... that's the first time I hear the word "atavism". It is like something old people don't need anymore?
