Package 'sysvinit' has no installation candidate

Hi,

because of some error with nginx I have done following steps to:

But function apt-get install systemd-sysv gives me Error:
Package sysvinit is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
However the following packages replace it:
upstart:i386 sysvinit-utils:i386 upstart sysvinit-utils

E: Package 'sysvinit' has no installation candidate

and after deleting local-pin-init with rm -f /etc/apt/preferences.d/local-pin-init I get ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED if I go on my site.

Please help me to fix this error.

And nginx gives

ubuntu started shipping systemd with Utopic Unicorn (where it is in the universe repository) and fully includes it since (the currently upcoming) Vivid Vervet.

Therefore, if you want to install systemd on your ubuntu-system (via the package manager), you need to first upgrade your entire system to a version that actually supports it.

Hi,

I have forgot to say:
I Use a V-Server from Strato. If it helps here is Server Information (Tarif):

V-Server Linux Level 1

• 2 CPU vCores
• 4GB Ram
• 300 GB SSD/HDD

And - 16.04 (LTE) version will come in 1 Month. Make it sense to update it to an nearly unsupported version???

even that it is possible, to upgrade to Ubuntu 16.04 and still use the current Plesk version 12.5 ( without supporting guarantee ), this procedure is only recommended for advanced system administrators, due to quite a few compatibilty issues with Plesk and your services on your server.

Nevertheless, you have a issues because you did a release-upgrade and might be interested in getting some help from:

Hi,
thanks for the answer but I had reinstalled the whole system (the good thing i am at the beginning phase - no important sites are running and not much changes was done). Hopefully it was my last time when i reinstall it.

But I have another question about the update. Do I need to update my server now or I can wait few years,until 16 Ubuntu is fully patched. I want to avoid long Offline times, the page must be always available.

you absolutely don't have to upgrade to the upcoming Ubuntu 16.04 LTS version right away, when it's being released. Please see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LTS to be informed about the "Long Term Support" and you will notice, that Ubuntu 14.04 will end its support in 2019. Plesk will not stop supporting an LTS - version, untill the official Ubuntu supports ends.

thanks for the answer, I know about LTS. I have asked it because of new functions (like systemd), that my be used in newer versions of Plesk (see post from abdi). If it will works fine with 14.04 (till 2019) I will not update it. Till that time I will maybe build my own server@home.

Hi all,

I have found reason for ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED (had the same problem's after new install, but without using https://kb.plesk.com/en/127355#dbus). It was because gitlab (in ngnix settings) have blocked port 80.

Now I can open my sites, but after reboot its don't shows Pictures (design).

please be aware, that some content need additional nginx - directives, when using apache2 and/or nginx and php5-fpm/php-fpm. Please investigate your error - logs from your depending domain.

Notice:

• General webserver - error - logs:

/var/log/apache2/error.log or /var/log/httpd/error.log
/var/log/nginx/error.log​

• General PHP - version error - logs:

/var/log/php_errors.log
/var/log/plesk-php54-fpm/error.log
/var/log/plesk-php55-fpm/error.log
/var/log/plesk-php56-fpm/error.log

• Domain - specific logs:

If you need help with your investigations, please consider to open a new thread with your unique issue and try to include as much as possible informations ( from error - logs, to unique domain-specific configurations for apache and/or nginx ) and don't forget your OS and the Plesk version ( incl. MU. ).
