Quit integrating SWsoft SPAM adverts into our PAID software

You're talking about crashes. What bugs in Plesk cause a machine to crash? He acknowledged there are problems, bugs and troubles. All software has a bunch of those. Crashes are more serious though.

Through the recent hotfix and through CSS hacks I've been able to hide most of the ad ****. A big FU to SWSoft for putting that stuff in there.

But the Dr. Web travesty remains.

Customer: why don't you have any antivirus on the server??

Me: We do.

Customer: but on my email cp it says "Antivirus mail checking (!) Disabled"!

Me: ...

I like plesk for its simplicity and ease of use, along with the advanced features, I find Cpanel quite the opposite.

Yes Plesk has its downfalls with regards to upgrades and bugs, and I agree we shouldn't have to put up with them when paying for licensing.
the spam is/was a great disappointment however their are workarounds.

Plesk and SWsoft both have faults yes I agree, and yes Things like anti-virus are limited and should be updated, (Inc Qmail)

I've used plesk for some time but until recently purchasing a number of servers have found it very fustrating.

Well either you use different builds of Plesk to the ones we are given by SWsoft or you're not managing those servers correctly. We've not had a server "crash" due to Plesk ever, and have been using Plesk 5.5 years across hundreds of servers and VPS's. Sure Plesk has it's faults, as do SWsoft, but there are workarounds for all the problems if you have good techs looking after the servers and the benefits of using Plesk still far outweigh the problems for us.

Exactly.

Plesk serves us very well.

Urm - can we stick to topic, this is not a topic about how well the software runs or how well plesk/swsoft have been in the past... I am sure they are marvelous!

However insn't the thread is about the sudden inclusion of advertising of product(s)...

Where else can the community of plesk users express their opinion on this direction that the software has taken and ensure their views in any way can be taken into account?

A good tech can always ensure smooth running, but the shift toward embedded advertising is both a nucience to remove and fundimentally a policy which should be changed IMO.

I emailed my server rep to complain about this and ask them to help do something about it. Here's the email I got back this morning:
Jason,

I greatly appreciate your email and I appreciate your thoughts on this. We are one of SWSoft's largest customers and because of this, examples such as these are vital to our being able to bring attention to issues with SWSoft. I have a meeting next Tuesday with our management team and I have added this to my list of things to discuss with them.

Thanks again for your help. Knowing what our customers' needs and wants are is how we get things changed!

I hope they're able to throw some weight into this fight.

I honestly never liked SWSoft. I like their products, but I dislike their non-existing quality control, and since this latest episode with spam added into the 8.1 version, I really completelly lost my faith and trust in this company.
I cannot longer rely on software by a company I cannot trust.
Starting from now we will be installing solutions from the competition on our new servers, and move all our customers to the new panel before summer.
I will ask my lawyer if anything can be done out of this situation, like sending a bill to SWSoft to cover the time and money we need to invest in the migration and regain the trust from our customers.

Has anyone managed to remove the Virtuozzo advert in the top bar of Plesk?

My sales rep has just emailed me updated keys which he states have the ads disabled but I do not have any 8.1 installations to check (I will not upgrade my servers until this problem has been corrected).

Has anyone else had the ads successfully removed from their license?

I have also requested an explanation to this fiasco from a senior SWsoft employee and my sales rep told me my email has been passed on to his director. I look forward to hearing their explanations for their poor business practises.

There is a thread on this forum that tells you how - it involves editing a CSS file that effectively hides that advert... however it to my mind is still unaceptable as its more a "hack" to prevent the add showing. It should be simple to choose what items are advertised or weather to have any advertisment at all that is the key issue here! Where do sw-soft get off, perhaps they want to sell viagra on my control panel....

Hello aernative,

Thank you for your reply. I am aware the ads can be removed by editing the CSS file but that is not acceptable in my eyes. There are 17 standard skins for Plesk so that makes 17 file edits per server/per upgrade. No thank you.

The adverts should not be present if the license has been paid for. Simple as that, really.

thats basicly tue, but if any of us take the time (i dont have upgraded yet so i dont have access to those files) and the effort to make available a patch (to patch the ccs files, and remove/comment those lines) that would make the job a lot easier for all of the others.

Now the problem is, that i really doubt that anyone will go through all that trouble of creating patchfiles.

If i had it installed, most probably i would have created them already, as taking your word, i dont want to edit 17 files in 3 servers.

Its a shame that SW-Soft became this poor, unprofessional, unethical, and crappy company.

I love Plesk, but i doubt our next server will have it, i will not tolerate to have spam on my paid product, so, we are analyzing other options, cPanel is out of the competition, i hate it, i know is a really robust CP, but most of our clients hate it, so im not yet sure which one will i select when the time comes to get a 4rth box.

I hope SW-Soft rectifies the mistake, release a patched "WITHOUT-CRAPPY-SPAM" update, AND FOCUS on whats important GIVING US a stable, reliable, good product.

I hope everyone is still complaining about the Virtuozzo advert (top right). They're not going to consider removing it unless we all do.

....While we justifiably got backlash on inability on turn-off Fotolia/etc, so far we received few complaints on Virtuozzo motto. At the same time we/I do listen to any feedback and your feedback will be appreciated.

:(

I'm voicing my complaint as well for the Virtuozzo top right link.

All the ads on the main page and on top of Plesk 8.1 are really a shame.

Thankfully I am hosting only personal sites on this machine; I'd hate my clients to believe we are using a shareware version of a control panel - yes, that's what Plesk looks like, right now.

I did just realize that even with the lastest updates the My Plesk icon still appears when looking at a mail name/account.

Disabling the news option DOES NOT WORK - Plesk news still visible to everyone.
Disabling the MyPlesk features DOES NOT WORK - Button still visible under mail settings.
Disabling Virtuozzo DOES NOT WORK - ads still visible top right.

Oh dear SWsoft, what a mess

2 months so far with no functioning patch. When will this fiasco end??

You can't turn all the adds off in 8.1 unless you hack the CSS, take the advert top right near the logout button for instance...

You can turn them off in version 8.1.
Hello sagelike,

I am running the latest 8.1 build with 'special' licenses from SWsoft which has all these options disabled (and greyed out so they cannot be enabled) but as I stated in my post.......it does not work. The news/myplesk/virtuozzo are still present.
