  • The BIND DNS server has already been deprecated and removed from Plesk for Windows.
If a Plesk for Windows server is still using BIND, the upgrade to Plesk Obsidian 18.0.70 will be unavailable until the administrator switches the DNS server to Microsoft DNS. We strongly recommend transitioning to Microsoft DNS within the next 6 weeks, before the Plesk 18.0.70 release.
  • The Horde component is removed from Plesk Installer. We recommend switching to another webmail software supported in Plesk.

Resolved Roundcube 1.6.0 run on Obsidian 18.0.55 still defaults to PHP 8.0.* not PHP 8.1.* - Why?

Plesk Obsidian 18.0.55 MU #1
By default, when running Plesk-Roundcube 1.6.0 on Obsidian 18.0.55 it still defaults to PHP 8.0.* despite, Plesk itself (& everything else) being upgraded to run on later PHP releases.

IF a removal of PHP 8.0.* is attempted (in our case, because we don't need that older & very soon to be no longer actively supported PHP release, for anything else...) the Plesk default warnings about also 'removing Roundcube...' appear (image). This is regardless of the fact that the Official Roundcube 1.6.0 release itself, does fully support PHP 8.1.*.*

We currently use: Package: plesk-roundcube - Version: 1.6.0-v.ubuntu.22.04+p18.0.55.1+t230907.0527

Question for Plesk: Will that ^ Plesk package run on PHP 8.1.* - Yes or No. If yes, will that change also the allow the removal of PHP 8.0.* - Yes or No? If yes, is this achieved by using the same method as has been used previously? ( i.e. via THIS Plesk Article about changing the PHP version for webmail, but an article which is now out of date with regard to PHP 8.1 ) This kind of delay, has happened previously ( but with earlier releases of all the different software packages). Old details if needed for reference are HERE and HERE but in this case, all was finally resolved with a later Plesk Obsidian release. The same question has already been asked, but not yet answered / responded to by Plesk. See THIS THREAD for details

For old operating systems like RHEL 7, CentOS 7, CloudLinux 7, and Ubuntu 18.04 PHP 7.4 is still in use. PHP 8.0 is only available for Roundcube webmail 1.5.x and later which is installed on modern operating systems.

PHP 8.0 will be replaced by 8.1 or 8.2 (we don't know yet for sure) on modern operating systems within the next few months. Please do not attempt to replace it on your own, there are reasonswhy Plesk hasn't done it yet, it's just not guaranteed to work. On old version 7.x operating systems it won't work at all. Just wait on the upgrade that will be done anyway. Having PHP 8.0 on a server poses no risk.
