SiteBuilder install / control panel ?/problem

I am quite confused and can't find specific information anywhere.

When I purchased PleskPlus & SiteBuilder for a newly configured Debian server and had it installed by SWsoft. I then received a notice that the installation was complete...

...I logged into Plesk via IP# and started to examine the new environment. I started assigning IPs, clients, and domains. Every time I tried to access a newly added domain by its IP# I got no response. I originally thought that the problem had to do with DNS since I couldn't reassign the domain for the server since it was being used on the old server. For weeks I went crazy only to learn that none of the other IP#s had their ports opened. I again tried to get some serious work done and assigned each newly added domain as its own DNS. After moving over my main domain and setting up its DNS I tried evoking SiteBuilder again by the above instructions. I then realized that I had to do something with SiteBuilder and DNS. I made changes to the DNS records of the server so to add
sitebuilder.www.MYDOMAIN.COM. as an A record. After the zone files propagated I tried again only to realize that I couldn't login. I then read a post that I needed to use (admin / admin) not (root / sitebuilder).

For a little while I thought I had SiteBuilder Working I could access the admin area by going to
http://sitebuilder.www.MYDOMAIN.COM/admin/index.php

http://sitebuilder.www.MYDOMAIN.COM/wizard/index.php The page came up but I could not get to step 1.

Since looks stupid I went back to DNS to remove the www since http://sitebuilder.MYDOMAIN.COM at least looks reasonable. After waiting for the correction to prorogate I again tried to access SiteBuilder I got errors at the control panel and could no longer access the admin pages. I reread all the documentation but something seems to be missing...

Does anyone know exactly how I should setup DNS (preferably for websites/MYDOMAIN.COM rather than sitebuilder.MYDOMAIN.COM)?

Also how do I setup SiteBuilder for my other domains and the domains of my clients?

...I also noticed in PHP Version 4.3.10-18 that

Virtual Directory Support is disabled

register_globals is set to Off Off

do these, above, settings have anything to do with my problem and some of the errors I get on installing some of the programs in the ApplicationVault?

Any assistance with these issues would be extremely helpful.

Thanks...

Hi SpidermonBob,

As I wrote earlier, I can't answer all your questions, as there's just too much to sift through and your post is a tad bit confusing. No offense - just trying to help.

If SWSoft did the installation, I would recommend contacting them directly. Tell them your problem. They are very reasonable, and if it's their fault, I think they'll fix it. If not, isn't paying $75 worth alleviating all this pain and frustration? Something to ponder ...

That being said, we also have plesk/sitebuilder on Debian. It can be done. It's not painless, however. Our installation issues with plesk were with competing installs of Apache, /etc/pam.d/ftp needed to be replaced, and some DNS issues (We use another box for DNS). SWSoft helped me solve those problems as they arose. The longest I've had to wait was for a publishing problem in Sitebuilder, and that was a week. The changes are now part of the most recent Sitebuilder update (I believe)

As for DNS - is the plesk machine handling DNS, or is another machine? Personally, we have our DNS hosted on another machine, so if that's not the case, then I can't help you here.

Try asking your DNS question in the main Plesk troubleshooting board. Just keep your question simple!

You also might want to take a look at the SWSoft Knowledgebase.

Virtual Directory support should be disabled, unless you have a reason to enable it. register_globals should also be set to "Off" , again, unless you need to enable it. This should have nothing to do with DNS issues. As for the application vault, you shouldn't have any problems - they should install without issue. Perhaps you could ask this question in a non-SiteBuilder forum and get better results?

FYI - SiteBuilder is NOT part of the Application Vault.
