Subdomain CNAME to home server problem

Hi everybody,

I have a question regarding subdomains.
My "problem" is as follows:
I recently purchased a server running Plesk 8.1.1.
The server has a dedicated IP and a "domain.com" address.
Now I want to forward a subdomain to a home server so I made a record in the DNS: "homeserver.domain.com" CNAME "myhomeaddress.isp.com".
But when I go to "homeserver.domain.com" I end up at my Plesk server at "domain.com" telling me hosting is not configured for this domain or there is no such name registered in Plesk.
Now my question is: how do I get this thing working?

Maybe the problem has something to do with the fact that the nameservers for my "domain.com" are "nameserver1.myserverprovider.com" and "nameserver2.myserverprovider.com"?
Maybe my server provider has to change something in their DNS?

Help greatly appreciated!
Thanks

Another thing is: while I've been seeing lot's of posts about having a wildcard or catch-all subdomain I want to have the opposite.
All subdomains end up at my Plesk server saying hosting is not configured for this domain or there is no such name registered in Plesk. I'd like to have Plesk return nothing when a user enters a subdomain that doesn't exist.
Can someone tell me how to do this?

Thanks again.

Since apparently DNS is hosted at mynameserverprovider.com the CNAME record has to be added in the zonefile at their nameservers, not in the zonefile on your own server.

Thanks Breun.
I was afraid of that.

A client of mine has his domain hosted on a plesk server and if I create a subdomain (with CNAME forwarding) there everything works.
I found out that the nameservers of his domain are also on a Plesk host.
So, since I've got an entire server, shouldn't I be able to accomplish the same?
Does anybody know what kind of construction that takes?

Thanks again, this forum is priceless

Sure, you can do the same. You'll need to transfer the domain from the nameservers of mynameserverprovider.com to your own.
