Trouble Publishing from SiteBuilder

Hey All,

Forgive the newb questions here, but i'm a tad frustrated. We are running Plesk 8.2 and SiteBuilder 4.0 on RH Ent 5 / 64bit. The hardware itself is more than adequate for our needs. Per the Plesk partitioning suggestions, the large volume is /var, and everything else is partitioned as it should be according to the instructions.

I am able to get everything installed, and actually get to the sitebuilder login page and create a sample page (after doing the generic initial config), but am never able to publish. Here are my questions...

1) What is the preferred method of publishing if I have a single server that will be doing the hosting of the user's sites?

2) FTP... does Plesk or Sitebuilder install and configure an FTP server as part of their install package, or is this something that isn't mentioned in the instructions.

3) XCOPY... If the users are publishing to the same server that they are doing the authentication to, one would think this is the preferred method for this particular setup... if so, what is the default storage settings for XCOPY (assuming that /VAR) is my large storage volume.

4) Assuming that I do need to use FTP, and that SiteBuilder/Plesk sets a server up for you, do the users need to be manually configured, or will the act of setting them up in SiteBuilder configure the FTP accounts as well?

This should get me a decent start if I can get a few of these answered. For those that ask, yes, I did read the SiteBuilderadmin.pdf... all 101 pages. The pages relating to publishing give no real defaults or suggestions as to where the site will be available from given a standard, plain-Jane installation.

Before I really get flamed, I must inform everyone that I have a few years of Linux under my belt, but this is my first true attempt at getting the "powers that be" to allow me to run Linux in our production environment. I am an MS guy from the days of NT 3.51, and would really like this project to be a success for future Linux endeavors in the shop.

Also, as a side note, this is for a School District, and The basic setup for what we are looking for will be http://sitebuilder.host.domain/teachername (teacher's account here). Something of that sort would be great... we aren't looking to create individual domains out of this... it's all going to be under one roof.

Thanks for the help in advance guys!

Hey SibProgrammer,

Thanks for the pointer regarding FTP. I guess I should have clarified that I do already have FTP installed, and am able to log in using the FTP accounts created during the account creation process.

Where I am really running into issues is not so much accessing the server via FTP, as it is publishing to the server... be it FTP or XCOPY. Under publishing settings,

Publishing mode set to FTP:
Host: 10.40.0.68 (Internal Presence since this is for a school board)
Port: 21
Login: teachername - I have tried accounts from both Plesk and Sitebuilder since they don't truly seem to be able to be 100% integrated.
Password:
Working directory: I think this is what is killing me here... default is "httpdocs", but when I look where it actually places the documents, it appears to put it into /var/www/vhosts/webhost.clay.k12.fl.us/web_users/teachername.

Website URL: Here's another one I am completely lost on... I can't find a stitch of documentation on multiple sites under a single domain, and how they should be accessed. If I had to guess, i'd say http://webhost.clay.k12.fl.us/teachername or http://webhost.clay.k12.fl.us/~teachername. Neither of these work though.

When I use the very same account that I have used on an FTP client to login, and point to the httpdocs as the working directory, and the URL as http://webhost.clay.k12.fl.us/~teachername, I get:

"The site cannot be published to the specified location. Internal server error has occurred on the remote server. Please contact the server administrator."

The funny thing is though that I can use an FTP client and create files and folders, modify and delete them without difficulty. Using SiteBuilder though... it bombs.

Thoughts?

Looks like problem with work of Sitebuilder modules on the published site. Some helpful information can be found in the Apache error logs. Also try to create fully statical site by removing all modules from site structure (by default ImageGallery module present in newly created site). Resolving of the problem with internal server error requires investigation on the server, so try to contact support - https://www.swsoft.com/support/sitebuilder/form/
