x-envelope-to in mailheader

From a customer we received the request to add an extra header in the emails, called x-envelope-to.

Personally I did never heared of this option and therefor did a quit intensive search on the net, but still haven't found any good result of how to handle this and even not exactly what this x-envelope-to will do.

I discussed this option later on again with the customer and this is why they will need to have this option:

They're using a catch-all email adres. Software running on their local server is cathing up all these emails and will forward the emails to the correct owner by this x-envelope-to header in the emails.

Personally I'm not that advanced in these things, so I'm a little bit lost at the moment. The customer itself is microsoft minded and could not help me with the settings on our server.

Our system is running on FC4 with Plesk 8.01 installed.
Thanks for any suggestions in this case

Just googled this for you and found this
http://iain.cx/qmail/patches.html

The last patch on this page will install this for you.

You will need to get the qmail sources, apply the swsoft patches then apply this patch uncommenting the relevent lines and build it.

Regards

X-Envelope-To is a non-standard header (RFC 4021 documents all standard mail headers). What's different about the X-Envelope-To header? Can't they just use the standard To header?
