At various time of the day I get emails warning my about my web server service is down, and then gets restarted. Used to be 4am ish every morning, now its happening during the day as well. Nothings really changed on the server. Not added any more sites, not changed any configuration.

    Email 1:
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Plesk Web Server service on host ***** is down.
The problem was discovered on Jan 19, 2007 04:12 AM.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Email 2:
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Plesk Web Server service on host ***** has been started on Jan 19, 2007 04:22 AM.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've looked in my Apache error file, but cannot see anything in there which suggests why this may be happening.

Does anyone have any idea why this may be happening? or could tell me where else to search for a solution? I'm on Fedora 4, Plesk 8.1

    Thanks in advance,

Nope, thats the weird thing. At the times I'm getting emails from watchdog, there is not even an entry in the error log file.

    Mine's at /var/www/httpd/error.log

Could it be Watchdog being twitchy??

I've not been on my web site when the Watchdog emails me to say its been restarted, because its mostly early mornings when I'm in bed :).

    HEllo,

I would not use watchdog by any means.
I do not believe that it breaks apache , but surely it was the only one that conflicted with qmail. No other software ever did.

I have 3 servers running Plesk on Linux. ALL 3 have this problem! It must be a Plesk software problem!

Im still getting these. Its Plesk control panel going down not Apache I think.

    Anyone got a suggestion?

I've looked at the backup times, and cron jobs. Cant see a pattern related to them. Its weird.

I dont know if this is a solution as such, but I've increased the watchdog monitoring timeout against the "Plesk Web Server" from 10 seconds to 30 seconds, and I havent had a single e-mail warning me its gone down in the past 2 days.

Just thought I'd let you know....

I really think the only good solution to this is rpm -e psa-watchdog.

I was having several same issues, and have come to the solution to remove it because it is really a useless piece of software!
