Question Webspace Main Domain Change

Branko

Basic Pleskian
Hello, I have a question, and possible problem to solve.

Server details
Version Plesk Onyx v17.8.11_build1708180301.19 os_CentOS 7
OS CentOS Linux 7.6.1810 (Core)

On the server I have several webspaces, and on one of them client want to transfer domain away from me, but that domain is the main webspace domain.
On that webspace I have two more domains.

What is the best solution for this situation?

Thank you in advance.

You might be tempted to just leave the main domain as is, but, depending on your configuration, this may cause issues with local DNS or with sending mail to addresses under it (or receiving from them), so I advise against it.

First approach: just rename the main domain to a subdomain of a domain that you'll keep, even if you don't really intend to use it. So, rename example.com to placeholder.example2.com and that's it. Check if changed paths affect anything.

Second approach: let's assume you have example.com (main domain), example2.com and example3.com (remaining two domains). You might:
- rename example2.com to a temporary made up domain, let's say example2-temp.com
- rename example.com to example2.com
- remove example2-temp.com, and you're done.

At this point you have example2.com as a main domain and example3.com as an ad-on domain. Also... well it's obvious, but let's mention it anyway... be careful about the actual contents, etc., so that nothing that is needed gets deleted when you remove the example2-temp.com or something similar.... and check if the changed paths affect anything, of course.

Hello, Ales, thank you very much for answering.

The first approach looks better for me.
Just one thing, should I also create a subdomain ( placeholder.example2.com ), or just rename webspace?
